Position Title: Faculty and Director of Patient Care and Clinical Skills Lab

Larkin University (LU) College of Pharmacy (COP) is seeking a full-time pharmacy practice faculty along with the role of Director of Patient Care and Clinical Skills Lab. This position provides a unique opportunity to build and shape a sequence of Patient Care and Clinical Skills Lab courses in the new 10-week quarter curriculum. The successful candidate will lead the design, implementation, and growth of the courses while fostering a collaborative, student-focused environment. The faculty will have responsibilities in different aspects of pharmacy academia, including but not limited to didactic teaching, clinical practice with experiential education of students, patient care lab teaching, research, student mentoring, and service to the institution and profession as applicable.

LUCOP’s accelerated Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and is an integrated-block, three-year curriculum. LU is a private not-for-profit 501(c)(3) university and consists of the College of Pharmacy, College of Biomedical Sciences, and School of Physician Assistant Studies. Faculty Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Dean and Department Chair in ensuring the integrity of the University and the College of Pharmacy are in line with the founding principles, values, mission, and goals.

  • Maintain an active clinical practice site that facilitates high-quality experiential education and scholarship.

  • Precept LUCOP students in experiential education rotations as assigned by the Department Chair in collaboration with the Assistant Dean of Experiential Education.

  • Work with Department Chair and practice site liaison to facilitate training and mentoring of post-doctoral trainees (e.g., PGY-1,2 residents) at their clinical practice site.

  • Work with Department Chair to formulate a strategy to develop and sustain a research program in a specialty area;

  • Maintain a productive output of scholarly contributions, such as peer-reviewed publications in scientific journals, and mentor LU students in research endeavors.

  • Participate in research mentoring programs and outreach activities promoted by the department, college, or university.

  • Assist in activities related to program accreditation by various national, regional, state, and other accreditation and regulatory agencies.

  • Serve on various College of Pharmacy/University committees and advise LU student chapters of professional organizations as assigned.

  • Participate in mentoring/advising of students.

  • Promote collegiality, professional and ethical behaviors; and

  • Perform other duties as requested by the Chair and/or Dean

 

Responsibilities as Director of Patient Care and Clinical Skills Lab

  • Develop, deliver, oversee, and update patient care and clinical skills curricula to reflect evolving practice standards, evidence-based care, and real-world pharmacy practice.

  • Teach and provide instructional leadership in the patient care lab.

  • Co-ordinate with clinical faculty to develop instructional material, patient cases, clinical skills, standardized patient encounters, simulation exercises and other experiential training modalities.

  • Integrate patient care processes, communication skills, physical assessment, and clinical decision-making training into lab activities.

  • Be available to coordinate and teach assigned courses and classes at an appointed time.

  • Assess students in patient care and clinical skills lab and provide timely, constructive feedback that helps students improve competence in patient care and clinical reasoning.

  • Coordinate closely with the Office of Experiential Education to ensure that clinical skills lab training prepares students for Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs).

  • Promote and coordinate interprofessional learning opportunities where pharmacy students work with learners from other health professions to simulate team-based care.

 

Job Requirements:

The successful candidate shall have a PharmD with residency or equivalent clinical practice experience and be licensed/eligible for Florida licensure. Many different potential practice sites are available, including our partner teaching hospitals and clinics. All clinical specialties will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
