Message from the dEAN

It is with great pride and excitement that I welcome you to the Larkin University School of Dental Medicine—a vibrant new chapter in our institution’s commitment to excellence in education, healthcare, and community empowerment.

Lots of hard work went into making this a reality. Different groups came together with one purpose in mind – to create a new dental school in one of the fastest growing areas in the United States, Orlando Florida. With the submission of our initial application for accreditation to the Commission on Dental Accreditation our journey has started.

At Larkin University, our mission is rooted in a transformative vision: to educate diverse future leaders in health professions through innovative, student-centered, and inclusive learning. We are driven by a deep commitment to addressing the needs of underserved populations, advancing research that improves lives, and building healthier communities—locally and globally.

Our new dental school embodies this mission with intention and purpose. From day one, we will create a culture of excellence in oral healthcare delivery, where patient-centered care is not only taught but lived. Our students will be trained in the latest evidence-based practices and technologies, ensuring that they provide compassionate, competent, and culturally sensitive care to every individual who walks through our doors.

But we’re not stopping at clinical care. Community service is embedded in our DNA. We understand that true impact extends beyond the walls of a clinic. Our dental students and faculty will engage deeply with the Central Florida community, participating in outreach programs, oral health education initiatives, and external rotation sites designed to reach those who need it most.

Research, too, plays a critical role in our identity. We will foster a dynamic environment where inquiry and innovation flourish. Whether it’s investigating new materials and techniques or exploring social determinants of oral health, our research will be focused, relevant, and impactful.

As we look toward the future, we will embrace emerging technologies that are reshaping dental education and practice. Digital dentistry, artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and virtual reality are no longer on the horizon—they are here, and we are preparing our students to lead confidently in this dynamic, tech-enhanced landscape.

Complimenting all of this, we want to make the Larkin University School of Dental Medicine a great place to work. Faculty, staff and students should feel the most satisfying part of what they do is helping patients improve their health, smile, and relieve pain. Finally, the culture will be one that makes working here feel like a second family, where everyone supports each other.

Together, we are building more than a dental school—we are cultivating a new generation of oral health professionals who are compassionate caregivers, visionary scientists, and tireless advocates for health equity.

We invite you to be part of this exciting journey.

Warm regards,

*Dental School Accreditation Statement: Larkin University is in the process of submitting an application to  the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) to begin the accreditation process.  Once the application is submitted, it starts a review process that may ultimately lead to accreditation status.  The Larkin University School of Dental Medicine (SDM) is not yet accredited. If initial accreditation status is not granted by CODA, the Larkin University SDM program will not conduct interviews for prospective students, nor will it matriculate a first class.
