Position Summary:
The Assistant/Associate Professor in Preclinical Education is responsible for delivering high-quality preclinical instruction, supporting curriculum development, and contributing to the academic mission of the School of Dental Medicine. This role focuses on simulation-based teaching, student assessment, faculty calibration, and competency development to ensure students are prepared for successful transition into clinical care.
The faculty member collaborates with academic leadership and colleagues across the curriculum to promote excellence in teaching, student success, innovation, and continuous improvement in alignment with institutional goals and Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
• Deliver preclinical instruction in simulation laboratory settings across foundational dental disciplines
• Demonstrate and supervise psychomotor skill development using simulation technologies and instructional tools
• Provide timely and constructive feedback to students regarding performance, skill development, and competency progression
• Participate in student assessment, practical examinations, and competency evaluations
• Support curriculum development, course planning, and continuous quality improvement initiatives within preclinical education
• Assist in development of instructional materials, assessment rubrics, and calibration exercises
• Participate in faculty calibration activities to promote consistency in teaching, grading, and student evaluation
• Support integration of biomedical, behavioral, and clinical sciences throughout the preclinical curriculum
• Mentor and advise students in academic progress, professional development, and remediation when needed
• Engage in scholarly activity, faculty development, accreditation preparation, and service to the institution and community
• DDS/DMD or equivalent dental degree from an accredited institution
• Eligibility for Florida State Dental Licensure or Florida State Dental Teaching License
• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in preclinical dental education
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Prior teaching experience in a dental school preclinical setting
• Advanced training such as AEGD, GPR, specialty training, or Master’s in education
• Experience with simulation technologies and digital dentistry tools
• Evidence of scholarly activity or educational research
