Walk the Swamp with Fulbright
The South Florida Chapter of the Fulbright Association invites current Fulbright grantees, alumni, and prospective scholars to experience one of Florida’s most remarkable landscapes on a guided swamp walk through Fakahatchee Strand, the largest strand swamp of the world, part of the Florida Everglades.
Led by an experienced biologist, we will spend part of the day wading through the strand and discovering its native plants and wildlife. For visiting grantees, it is a chance to experience a side of Florida they are unlikely to forget.

When: Saturday, November 14, 2026, 7:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
Where: Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. Group transportation will be arranged from locations in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Organizers will share pickup details before the event.
What to wear and bring: Expect to wade in water that may reach mid-thigh. Wear long pants and lace-up boots or sneakers. Sandals, waders, and open-top boots are not permitted. A hat and long-sleeved shirt are recommended.
Bring drinking water, snacks, insect repellent if needed, and a dry change of clothes. Fulbright will provide lunch sandwiches. Keep anything that must stay dry in sealed plastic bags. Restrooms will be available for changing before the trip home. Participants will be asked to sign a standard liability release.
