Position Summary:

The Assistant/Associate Professor in Dental Education (Biological and Behavioral Sciences) is responsible for delivering, integrating, and assessing foundational biomedical and behavioral science content within the predoctoral dental curriculum. This position supports student development in biological principles, evidence-based decision-making, and social and behavioral competencies essential to patient-centered care in alignment with institutional goals and Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.

The faculty member collaborates with academic leadership, course directors, and clinical faculty to promote curriculum integration, student success, innovation in teaching, and continuous quality improvement throughout the dental education program.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver didactic, small-group, case-based, and interdisciplinary instruction in biomedical and behavioral sciences

• Support integration of biomedical and behavioral sciences with preclinical and clinical dental education

• Develop engaging learning experiences that promote critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and lifelong learning

• Participate in curriculum planning, course development, assessment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives

• Evaluate student performance and contribute to academic assessment and program outcomes review

• Participate in simulation, preclinical, interprofessional, and collaborative learning activities

• Provide student mentoring, advising, and support for academic and professional development

• Participate in faculty calibration, development, and educational innovation initiatives

• Engage in scholarly activity, research, presentations, and publication related to dental education or related disciplines

• Serve on institutional committees and contribute to accreditation activities, service-learning, and community engagement.

Required Qualifications

• DDS/DMD, PhD, or equivalent doctoral degree in a biomedical, social/behavioral science, or related field

• Eligibility for Florida State Dental License or Florida State Teaching License

• Demonstrated experience or strong interest in teaching biomedical and/or behavioral sciences

• Knowledge of evidence-based dentistry and patient-centered care principles

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• Advanced training or degree in biomedical sciences, behavioral sciences, public health, or dental education

• Prior teaching experience in a CODA-accredited dental or health professions program

• Experience with curriculum design, assessment, and accreditation processes

• Record of scholarly activity or potential for research productivity
