Dr. Jeffery Johns is Associate Dean of Osteopathic Principles and Practice and Associate Professor of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the Jacqueline Nicole Michel College of Osteopathic Medicine. He is a board-certified osteopathic family physician and neuromusculoskeletal medicine specialist with extensive experience in medical education, emergency medicine, osteopathic manipulative treatment OMT, and faculty leadership.
Dr. Johns earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed residency training in Family Medicine at St. Vincent’s Family Medical Center, followed by an Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine residency at Downey Regional Medical Center. Prior to medical school, he obtained a Master of Science degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of South Florida and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida.
Throughout his academic career, Dr. Johns has held numerous leadership positions in osteopathic medical education, including Medical Director of Clinical Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine, Interim Chair of Osteopathic Principles and Practice, and Course Director for Osteopathic Principles and Practice curricula. His teaching interests include osteopathic principles and practice, neuromusculoskeletal medicine, emergency medicine, point-of-care ultrasound, fascial distortion model techniques, and medical acupuncture. He is actively involved in clinical training through student and resident mentorship and has served as a national faculty member and item writer for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners NBOME.
Clinically, Dr. Johns maintains an active practice in emergency medicine and has provided care in emergency departments, hospital medicine, telehealth, HIV specialty care, urgent care, and private practice settings. His diverse clinical experience informs his educational approach and commitment to training future physicians in evidence-based, patient-centered osteopathic care.
Dr. Johns’ scholarly interests focus on the physiologic effects of osteopathic manipulative treatment, autonomic nervous system regulation, heart rate variability, and the integration of osteopathic medicine into inpatient and acute care settings. He is a co-author of a peer-reviewed publication examining autonomic rehabilitation through modified occipitomastoid suture V-spread techniques and is involved in multiple ongoing research projects investigating OMT and autonomic function.
An active member of the osteopathic profession, Dr. Johns serves on national committees for the American Academy of Osteopathy and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians and contributes as a reviewer for the American Academy of Osteopathy Journal. He holds certifications in the Fascial Distortion Model and medical acupuncture and regularly presents at regional and national conferences on osteopathic medicine and musculoskeletal care.
Dr. Johns remains dedicated to advancing osteopathic medical education, fostering clinical excellence, and expanding the evidence base supporting osteopathic manipulative medicine.
